Dad on the Reef

Dad on the reef. Dad loved the sea and he loved to dive. Diving in the Caribbean and the Florida Keys was a far cry from growing up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. He sank like a rock. For someone who was 5 foot 5 inches and 125 pounds soaking wet, he sank like a sumo wrestler. He had a hard time passing the swimming test to be certified. He cheated. He blew up his BC vest so he would stay afloat. The instructors said it was a good way to cheat, and told the rest of the class that it was a good survival technique. He became a master diver and instructor and taught hundreds to enjoy diving, too. He and Mom taught me to dive. He did fail to get me up on skis, though. That is another story.
